Emerging Sector Roadmap and Action Plan

In 2020, the District of Squamish unveiled a strategic roadmap and action plan that provides the District and its stakeholders with tactics, timelines and ideas for emerging sector development. Two thematic areas were chosen: The Green Economy (clean technology, renewable energy, green building and agri-foods) and Outdoor Recreation (digital media, marketing and film and recreation technology and design). The plan was endorsed by Squamish Council in June 2020 and is currently being implemented by the District, with support from local and regional partners.

Emerging Sector Series

As part of the implementation of the Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, the District’s Economic Development team undertook an engagement series with stakeholders including industry, supporting organizations and other levels of government. The team also led deep-dive focus groups to understand sector barriers and opportunities and map out priorities.

Over 100 participants were involved in the process, as well as the Economic Leadership Team and Economic Partnership Forum.
