Squamish Neighbourhoods

Welcome to the Neighbourhood

Squamish is located in the traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). Skwxwú7mesh peoples are Coast Salish Aboriginal descendants who have lived in the Squamish area since before recorded time. The following Squamish Nation Reserves are located in Squamish: Cheakamus, Waiwakum, Kowtain, Stawamus, Yekwaupsum, Seaichem, Aikwucks.

Other neighbourhoods in Squamish are spread out throughout the district, each with unique features that make it a special place to live.

Downtown

Easy access to amenities with nature at your doorstep

Downtown Squamish and Downtown South are experiencing fast-paced growth. New condos and townhomes have resulted in a surge of young families and professionals seeking the adventurous lifestyle that can be found around every corner. Our high street, Cleveland Avenue, is home to independent cafes, retail shops and professional businesses. Two large shopping complexes have a number of specialty retailers as well as stores to meet your everyday needs. Three public schools, Squamish Elementary, L’Ecole Les Aiglons, and Howe Sound Secondary School serve our downtown community, with child-care facilities also located in the area.

The downtown Oceanfront is slated for residential, commercial, and industrial development in the coming years. The trail network along the waterfront offers access to great hiking as well as a variety of watersports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, sailing and boating.

Hospital Hill and Valleycliffe

5 minutes from downtown Squamish and just 45 minutes to Vancouver

The Hospital Hill area overlooks Highway 99 and downtown Squamish. The neighbourhood, home to both large and small family homes, features great views and boasts access to Squamish Smoke Bluffs, a popular hiking and climbing area.

Valleycliffe, located at the south end of Squamish, is nestled along the Stawamus River with stunning views of the Chief. Valleycliffe and the new Crumpit Woods development offer easy accessibility to parks and trails. This neighbourhood has become popular due to its proximity to Vancouver and downtown Squamish, as well as to hiking and rock-climbing routes.

Valleycliffe Elementary School and St'a7mes School, offering Cultural Journeys and Learning Expeditions programs, serve the neighbourhood, as well as a shopping area with a convenience store, post office, café and more.

Central Squamish

Easy to get around with proximity to Whistler and Vancouver

Central Squamish neighbourhoods include Garibaldi Estates, Tantalus Road, Northyards, Dentville and Brennan Park/Loggers Lane, and are all situated on flat ground and within central proximity to Whistler and Vancouver.

Garibaldi Estates sits at the foot of Garibaldi Highlands, just off the Sea to Sky Highway. The Estates is a good mix of residential and commercial development with established neighbourhoods, townhouse and condo complexes, and a vibrant mix of businesses. Mamquam Elementary School is just across the highway via a pedestrian overpass from the main shopping area.

The Northyards and Dentville areas have recently seen a surge of new higher-density townhouse developments. Dentville is walking distance to Downtown, and Northyards is close to the growing Business Park, as well as to the Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

The Brennan Park/Loggers Lane area, currently expanding via a mix of single-family homes and townhomes, still maintains a rural feel. The Brennan Park Recreation Centre is close by and Downtown or Garibaldi Estates shopping and restaurants are an easy walk or bicycle ride away along the paved Corridor Trail.

Garibaldi Highlands & University Heights

A quiet family-oriented neighbourhood on the edge of nature

The Highlands primarily offers single-family homes on large lots with plenty of parks and mountain bike trails easily accessible by foot or bicycle. The newer University Heights offer spectacular views of ocean, mountains and the valley floor, as do homes situated on a variety of streets throughout the Highlands. Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School serves the Highlands, while the shops and restaurants of Garibaldi Estates below are a quick five-minute drive or 15-minute bicycle ride away.

Brackendale

A riverside community 10 minutes from Downtown Squamish

Brackendale, located at the north end of Squamish, is a quick 40-minute drive to Whistler or a 10-minute drive to downtown Squamish. The Squamish River runs through the valley here, and a rural feel is maintained. Brackendale features the well-visited "Eagle Run" eagle viewing area, two commercial hubs, and a balanced mix of new and old construction, detached single-family homes, duplexes and townhouse complexes. Brackendale Elementary School and Don Ross Middle School are found in the north end, which also provides access to Upper Squamish and Paradise Valleys.
